Looks like BMW wants to make their range more affordable and hence are releasing a cheaper variant of their outgoing cars. Yesterday only BMW launched the 330i Sport, which is an affordable version of the 330 M Sport. Today BMW has launched an entry-level variant of their X7 SUV, the variant is called xDrive30d DPE.
The mantra is the same, fewer features but the same engine. And with a price of Rs 92.50 Lakh (ex-showroom), it is Rs 10 Lakh cheaper than the xDrive30d DPE Signature. It comes as completely knocked down (CKD) unit and assembled in India. The exterior does get a few changes and it misses out on a few things such as Laser headlamps, 360-degree camera, and a hands-free tailgate. While it retains 21-inch alloy wheels (different design) and LED taillights.
Coming to the interior, this variant gets most of the features such as 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay, four-zone climate control, electric sunblind for rear passengers, electrically adjustable front seats, air suspension and a panoramic sunroof. Though it does not get rear-seat touchscreen units, 5-zone climate control and ventilated seats.
The heart of this big SUV remains the same, it is powered by a 3.0 Litre, 6-cylinder Diesel engine which makes 265hp at 4,000rpm and 620 Nm of torque between 1,500-2,500rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and the power is transferred to all the four wheels. 0-100 takes only 7 seconds and it has a top speed of 227km/hr.
Safety features include seven airbags, ABS, traction control, ESC, Isofix child mount and hill descent control. The BMW xDrive30d DPE comes in three colours – Metallic White, Phytonic Blue, and Arctic Grey Brilliant Effect. Along with a cheaper base variant, BMW India has also increased the price of the existing two models. Now BMW xDrive30d DPE Signature is priced at Rs 1.02 Crore (ex-showroom), and BMW XDrive40i is priced at Rs 1.06 Crore (ex-showroom), both were priced at Rs 98.9 Lakh before. BMW X7 competes with Mercedes-Benz GLS, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90.
