BMW India today launched the 8 Series Gran Coupé and M8 Coupé in India . BMW India did a digital launch online. You can also purchase the BMW 8 series online through BMW Contactless Experience. The cars have made their way to the dealerships already.
The first 8 series was launched back in 1990 after stopping the production after 9 years. Now the 8 series made a comeback in 2018 and finally now the M8 comes to India for the first time. There will be two models for BMW 8 Series – Gran Coupé and the performance edition M8 Coupé. The Gran Coupé will also get M Sport Package. Which includes M Sport aerodynamic package, blacked-out highlights, 20″ alloy wheels and adaptive LED headlights.
Talking about the dimension both the 8 series is a very long car above 5m. in typical BMW fashion, it gets a long bonnet and rear while the drive to enjoy the thrill. The front of the car gets the kidney grille but its not as massive as some recent BMWs (X7) along with BMW Laser headlights.
The Gran Coupé is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six petrol engine which makes 340hp and 500Nm of torque. In the M sport package, you can also get M sport differential, adaptive M sport package, rear-wheel steering, and sport exhaust system. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It will only take 5.2 seconds to reach a 100kmph.
Some features for the Gran Coupé include 4-zone air conditioning, panoramic sunroof, 16 speakers Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Music system, fully electrically adjustable front seats and ambient lighting. The M Sport package gets piano black finish interior trims, M leather steering wheel, M seat belt and door sills finished in “M Sport” lettering.
Now let’s talk about the real deal we enthusiasts are interested in. BMW M8 Coupé, 2-door, V8 Monster! The engine is a 4.4L 8-cylinder, a twin-turbo motor which makes a staggering 600Ps of power and 750Nm of torque. 0-100 is done in just 3.3 seconds. Another significant change is BMW xDrive – which lets you switch from 4wd to purely rear-wheel drive fun!
The brakes are carbon-ceramic, M-mode in the console to let out all the power, and M sports exhaust system for crackles. A special M specific heads up display is given inside with BMW Professional Driving Assistant.
How much do they cost? Not cheap. The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé is priced at Rs 1.29 Crore (ex-showroom India) and M Sport package costs Rs 1.55 Crore. It competes with Porsche Panamera and Mercedes Benz AMG GT 4-door Coupe. While the M8 is priced at Rs 2.15 Crore (ex-showroom India) and will compete with Mercedes Benz S 63 AMG.
