BMW has removed the cover from its 8 series Gran Coupe. The 2020 BMW 8 series Gran Coupe will be priced staring from $84,990 for the RWD 840i, $88,795 for the 840i xDrive and $109,895 for the M850i xDrive. The 8 series Gran coupe measures 9 inches longer and 2.2 inches taller than 8 series Coupe. Besides that, the wheelbase of the Gran coupe has been stretched by 7.9 inches together with that the rear track extends by 1.2 inches. The 8 series Gran Coupe will be developed at the Dingolfing plant as the company has upgraded the facility to accommodate it.
The BMW 8 series Gran Coupe gets a subtle flying buttress design in the metal framework around the rear glass in which the finishing is to be done manually, there by making each unit look unique. The 8 series Gran Coupe gets four contoured seats. The dashboard and door panel uppers are finished in nappa leather in all the variants. A BMW Individual Full Merino package is offered as standard. The M850i comes provided with exclusive features including the standard M kit like 20-inch M V-Spoke wheels, performance run-flat tires, M Sport brakes and differential, Adaptive M Suspension, Integral Active Steering, Active Roll Stabilization, and M Sport exhaust.
Both 840 interiors get stitched up with Vernasca leather in Black, Ivory White or Cognac while the M850i gets Individual Extended Merino Leather instead, in Black, Ivory White, Cognac or two-tone options Night Blue/Black, Tartufo/Black or Fiona Red/Black. Besides that, electroplated air vent surrounds, door trim quilting and ambient lighting are also offered on the car. The latest Live Cockpit Professional appears on the 12.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel, the latest iDrive illuminates the 10.25-inch screen on the instrument panel, the latest heads-up display hangs just over the hood in the driver’s line of sight,. The extended center console runs into the rear compartment, offering individual right and left climate controls, air vents, USB ports, and storage trays to the rear passengers.
The 8 series Gran Coupe rear-wheel drive 840i and 840i xDrive will be both powered by BMW’s 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six motor which churns out a power of 335 hp and produces a peak torque of 368 lb-ft torque. On the other hand, powering the M850i xDrive is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 motor which is tuned to produce a power of 523 hp and 553 lb-ft torque. The 840i can accelerate to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds while the 840i xDrive does that in 4.6 seconds. The M850i can however accelerate from 0 kmph to 60 kmph in just 3.7 seconds.
