Benelli Leoncino 800 and 800 trail unveiled at EICMA 2019

The Benelli Leoncino 800 is a retro-themed naked motorcycle from the Italian company. It follows the philosophy of “Timeless Desire” as Benelli likes to call it. It is a balanced mix of classic and also modern styling elements.

The Benelli Leoncino 800 runs on a liquid-cooled, four-stroke twin-cylinder 754cc engine. It is extremely responsive and fluid to acceleration. The engine makes 81.6hp of power and also 67Nm of peak torque. It also features a double overhead camshaft and 4 valves per cylinder. The clutch boasts interlocking torque and also anti-slip function. The power transmission is taken care of by a 6-speed gearbox system.

The motorcycle sits on a completely new tubular truss with steel plates frame. We also get a 50mm Marzocchi USD fork up front with 130mm travel. It also gets compression and preload adjustments. There is also a swinging swingarm with a central single-piece adjustable in the spring preload and an extension hydraulic brake. The motorcycle features Brembo semi-floating double front disc 320 mm in diameter and a four-piston radial monobloc caliper, and a 260 mm diameter rear disc, with a double-piston caliper.

On the design front, the Leoncino 800 features sharp yet minimal lines. The tank is made of sheet metal to increase the retro factor. We also see aluminium bits below the the seat. On the contrary, the all-LED projector headlight unit is a step in the modern direction. It also gets a TFT instrumentation for a dashboard with a modern and authentic design. This blend of different elements sets the Leoncino 800 apart from the crowd.

The trail version of the new motorcycle features some design and mechanical changes to make it easier to navigate the off-road terrain. The engine and power outputs remain identical to the road variant. However, the front forks get an additional 10mm travel making the total a 140mm of travel. The rear central swinging arm also gets a 140mm travel in this. It also gets the knobby Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires. There are other small details like high headlight fairing, new double exhaust in a higher position, a new number plate holder and the heat shield on the side.
