The MG motor confirmed SAIC SUV which was to be launched in 2019 was spied testing. It is called the Baojun 530. The car had made its debut back in 2017 Guangzhou Auto Show. This SUV is suspected to be the first of the cars to be launched by MG motors in India.
This car is a joint product of SAIC, GM and Wuling. It was seen testing in a camouflaged condition, but the side profile revealed it all. The SUV is is 4655mm long, 1835mm wide and 1760mm high. The five seater is powered by a 1.8 liter or 1.5 liter turbocharged engine with six speed automatic, manual or DCT transmissions option, giving the customer to choose from eight variants of the Baojun in the International market. Though the India spec is suspected to run on a 2.0 liter diesel engine sourced from Fiat and the transmission options remain in the dark still now. The car comes with the standard features Aluminum wheels, luggage rails and the ESP system from Bosch.
A source from MG motors gave the following input, “We extensively studied all the brands in the SAIC stable and found that our sister brand Baojun offered exactly what was needed for the Indian market with the 530 SUV. The Indian version will be very different from the Chinese one and we plan to re-engineer it extensively with a strong dose of MG’s DNA.”
LED daytime running lamps, front fog lamps, four air bags, leather seats and an electric sunroof are a part of the SUV’s luxury trim, whereas the honor trim offers, a panorama sunroof, electric seats, a start/stop engine and Continental tires. The flagship trim comes with an independent rear suspension, LED lenses, a Harman Infinity sound system, side curtain air bags and an electric parking brake. The Baojun 530 is a direct rival of the Jeep Compass and is expected to prove its worth in the coming times. The SUV will be assembled at the Halol facility and the price will be around Rs. 14 lakhs to Rs. 15 lakhs.
