Maruti Suzuki was working on a hybrid version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno for some time. The new spy shots show the Baleno smart hybrid version with a DualJet petrol engine. The 1.2-liter DualJet engine will also feature an additional electric motor.
This new engine known as K12C includes two injectors per cylinder. This offers better combustion over the traditional one injector per cylinder. The new technology also increases fuel efficiency and decreases exhaust emissions. This is also important as India is moving towards a much stricter BS6 emission norms.
The power figures are also expected to be higher than the normal K12B 1.2-liter single jet engine. K12B produces 82bhp and also 113Nm torque. The K12C, on the other hand, now produces 90bhp and 120Nm torque. This will make the car more fun to drive. Also, the electric motor will take care of torque on demand. It will also make the car more fuel efficient.
Maruti also plans to eventually stop the 1.3-liter DDiS engine. It will instead bring out more eco-friendly engine variants in its place. This will take place in light of the BS6 emission standards kicking in from April 1, 2020. The company will also bring the smart hybrid to other cars like the Swift, Dzire, Ignis and also WagonR.
Maruti recently brought the facelift version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The upcoming Baleno smart hybrid variant will not see any further cosmetic changes apart from the ‘Smart Hybrid’ badging. The price of the premium hatchback is also expected to go up considering the new technology.
