Bajaj has constantly been using KTM engines in their bikes and that has proved to be successful to them. Starting all the way from NS200, to the new Dominar 400. Now Bajaj has taken another KTM mill, specifically the 250 one and made a smaller version of the Dominar. Dominar 250 is all set to be unveiled this month and we have an official teaser from Bajaj as well.
Talking about the motorcycle, it is based on the bigger Bajaj Dominar 400, but on a budget. That means it cuts down on a few things but remains the styling of the bigger sibling. Talking about the things which have been changed, first come the swingarm which is much simpler and rectangular box-type swingarm. The alloys seem to carry the same design but the diamond-cut finish have been one away to simple black coloured alloys. The tyres also are smaller at both ends. The front disc can also be a smaller unit as compared to the 320mm unit on the Dominar 400.
These measures help Bajaj to cut significant costs and maintaining price with lots of part sharing between the two bikes. So what all remains the same? Almost everything else except the engine. The All LED Headlamps, digital instrument cluster, the beefy styling and even the inverted shocks at the front.
Talking about the main change in the engine. The 250cc, liquid-cooled, 4V, DOHV single-cylinder motor makes about 30hp of power and 24 Nm of torque. But Baaj will definitely make changes to the mill, probably add two more spark plugs, use a simpler SOHC setup, which will bring down the power a bit. The engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.
The bike will be priced somewhere close to Rs 1.6 Lakh (ex-showroom), in fact, even the bookings have been started unofficially. At this price, it will compete with the Suzuki Gixxer 250 and Yamaha Fz25. This can help Bajaj increase the overall sales of Dominar brand. The bike will be offered in black and red colour.
