The Ather Energy was founded by two IIT Madras Alumni, Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain, in 2013. Now finally its on its way to launch their first scooter, the Ather S340 on 5th June. The scooter was first showcased in 2016, by the company. The company has a plant in Whitefield Bangalore.
A 5 kW Brushless DC Motor (BLDC) and a Battery Management System (BMS) developed by Ather is the source of energy for the Ather S340 and the power output is 6.4 bhp with torque produced 14 Nm. The range of S340 is 60 km. The highest speed of the scooter is 72 kmph, where it accelarates 0-40 kmph in 5.1 seconds. Once charged the battery can cover upto 50000 kms. A telescopic fork and a monoshock unit handles the front and rear suspension of the electric vehicle. The S340 is also equipped with , disc brakes with a combined braking system (CBS). The scooter will only be available in Bangalore although the Ather has plans on selling them nationwide by the end of the year. A seven-inch touchscreen instrument cluster, smartphone connectivity, navigation assist, parking assist, under-seat storage light and LED lighting are some of the features the S340 is equipped with along with a vehicle charging point tracker. AtherGrid charging stations have already been installed by the company. 30 EV stations have already been setup in Bangalore, and 30 more will be joining them by the end of this year. The scooter also has a fast charging facility which enables the battery to be charged upto 80% in the span of an hour. The weight distribution of the scooter is nearly perfect, ie, 51:49.
22Motors Flow and the Okinawa Praise will face serious competition once the Scooter S340 is launched. The price of the vehicle is expected to be Rs. 1 lakhs to 1.5 lakhs, making it the costliest scooter in the country. The final price will be announced by the company upon its launch on 5 th June.
