Be it a Two wheeler or Four wheeler, Auto Expo of 2018 is witnessing a loads of new launches. Many International companies are excited to penetrate in India automotive market and promising to give customers an international level riding experience. Although, many companies are focusing on Electric vehicle segment, which is no doubt a future of automobile industry but still there is a lot of potential left in Petrol/Diesel segment.
Italian two wheeler brand Piaggio is also one of International players, who is very famous of Sport Bike manufacturing with Brand name “Aprilia”. But in India, Piaggio entered to scooter segment by launching its Aprilia SR 150 and got a remarkable amount of success. Now, to get the big share of 125cc scooter segment in India, Piaggio has extended its line up by finally launching its Aprilia SR 125 and Storm 125 in Auto Expo 2018. Considering the Indian generation, Aprilia SR125 and Storm 125 have been launched in multi-color combinations with some amazing eye catching graphics which are very bright and noticeable. Like its elder sibling SR150, we can also call these two products as sporty Scooters. Aprilia SR125 and Storm 125 share their design and style with its Sibling Aprilia SR 150 with no compromise in build quality. Double Barreled headlamps, Indicators position and seating position make us remind of SR 150. These 2 products will make Piaggio to be more accessible by Indian Youth at lower price. Both the Products will be available across all Aprilia and Vespa stores in India.
On performance front, SR125 is loaded with 124.49cc 3-valve air cooled engine paired to CVT that generates maximum power of 9.6 bhp @ 7,250 rpm with maximum torque of 9.9 nm @ 6,250 rpm. It is considered to be the most powerful scooter in this class. Aprilia SR125 has a fuel tank capacity of 6.5 Liters. SR125 is equipped with 14-inch tubeless tyres at front and rear side which will definitely improve the balancing and ride experience. Responsibility of suspension has been entitled to 30mm Hydraulic telescopic fork at front and Hydraulic shock absorber at rear end. 220mm disc brakes with twin piston floating caliper give more control and confidence to rider and improve the stability.
If we talk about Aprilia storm 125, there is no difference between SR125 and Storm 125 in terms of specification and performance except the tyre side. Storm 125 is having 12-inches tubeless tyres as compared to SR125 14-inches tyres. It has a large wind screen which is an additional offering for Storm 125.
Both the Scooters are sleeky and more attractive compared to the bulky scooters out there. The SR 125 is presented as street racer (like what the names suggest SR-Street) and the Storm 125 is more likely a off-road scooter with rugged tyres for the Storm 125 which is a new way of looking into the scooter segment.
So does the Aprilia SR125 and Storm 125 has the potential what it takes to find the way to achieve the top most position in 125cc segment where it has very tough rivals like Honda Activa 125, Grazia, Access 125, TVS Ntroq 125. Only time would tell us who will be winner at last. But we are expecting a very interesting battle between these giants.
