First and foremost the new Mahindra Thar is based on an all-new platform and Mahindra has focused equally on its on-road capabilities and interior comfort. So you can get the best of both worlds. The Thar is now wider and the front with LED headlamps. It also gets much better looking 5-spoke alloy wheel design and all-terrain tyres from CEAT.

Another welcoming change is the front-facing rear seats which is much more practical than the side ones and give the traditional 5-seater image. The rear also gets LED treatment and looks purpose-built with neatly integrated bumper. Coming to the interior, the new Thar gets features such as a touchscreen, steering mounted controls, the rear seats also get adjustable headrest. You can also see the low-range gearbox alongside the conventional stick, as well as lower, placed AC controls.

More Power? Sure. Mahindra Thar will get bigger and better engines from the Scorpio range, a 2.2L mHawk and also a 2.0L petrol engine as an option. The transmission will have the option of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. There’s no real competitor to the Thar except the Force Gurkha which is also gonna launch soon in its new avatar. Maybe Maruti Suzuki will also bless us with the Jimny if that ever happens! Till then wait for 15th August to see Thar make a comeback.
