Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos declared that the firm has ordered 100,000 electric delivery vans from Michigan-based company, Rivian. On Thursday in Washington, DC an event was held where Bezos revealed Amazon’s comprehensive strategy to overcome climate change. He claimed that the firm anticipates 100,000 Rivian vans to hit the road by 2024. However, the first van will debut soon after two years. The company will reveal the prototypes next year.
Soon after the event held at Washington, DC, the popular online shopping firm’s senior vice president for services, Dave Clark took social media platform to present the vehicle. Rivian is a moderately new title in the EV world which was established in 2009. The startup has showcased its pickup truck and SUV in November last year. The startup was established to rival against Tesla Roadster. RJ Scaringe, the CEO of Rivian finally turned the business approaching a further action-adventure consumer range.
Rivian will be a trendy and fashionable looking van which will come with a seven-seat SUV arrangement and five-seat pick-up truck as well. It was first showcased at 2018 Los Angeles Motor Show. Rivian hasn’t been tested on the road, but the company has planned to soon bring the vehicle on the road by next year. The vehicle will feature a non-oily gubbins in a skateboard style platform which will offer 0-60mph in 3.0secs highlighting a range of up to 400 miles. It will be available at £50,000 in the US.
In 2019, Rivian targets have been a large grant purpose, with the corporation acquiring immense investments from many huge companies including Amazon. In the month of February, Amazon initiated around $700 million in funding. In April, Ford declared a $500 million investment in the small EV firm which aimed at the development of new electric models. Rivian acquired a $350 million investment from Cox Automotive as well. The prices for the vehicles of Rivian will start from $70,000.
So, this will be the third vehicle from the company, after R1T pickup and the R1S SUV. After these off-roaders, the startup has planned to enter the passenger vehicle segment. Amazon’s constant attempts to obtain the firm carbon-neutral are pushed under a program the company which has been titled as “Climate Pledge.” The same program will be available to other businesses as well. The company hasn’t revealed much about the upcoming vehicle. Hence, we have to wait for the firm to officially reveal the specs and features of the van.
