Maruti has launched the BS6 compliant version of India’s largest selling family car, the Alto. This Alto is the second car to receive the BS6 treatment from Maruti, Baleno being the first. Now, we have the walk around video of the new Alto, courtesy of Ujjval Saxena.
While this is not an all-new update, it gets major feature and safety upgrades. Standard safety tech includes Driver Airbag, ABS with EBD, speed and seat belt alert, and rear parking sensors. Top of the line variants gets a passenger airbag too. Over to the video now. The first thing you will notice is the updated face. The grille is a much bigger one and is done in black and runs the entire length between the front lamps. The grill has two horizontal slats and reminds us of the Celerio X in the first glance. Next up, the air dam gets a hexagonal pattern and the openings are so HUGE that the radiator is visible.
Check out the video below:
The fog lamp seems to be a rectangular one as opposed to the circular one in the outgoing model, evident from the rectangular housings seen on the front bumper. One could also have the optional DRLs in place of the fog lamps. Headlamp units are the same as the outgoing model though. The side profile though remains identical to the outgoing model. The same is the story on the rear. It is identical to the outgoing model. The rear bumper houses a pair of parking sensors, now mandated by the government regulations.
On the inside, the 2019 Alto receives a dual tone dashboard borrowed from the Alto K10. The door pads can also be seen sporting the dual tone treatment. The instrument cluster is a revised unit on the 2019 Alto and gets additional warning lamps for the seat belt reminder and other stuff. The center console is now updated and has utility space beside the air-con vents. We also get an infotainment system that supports USB and AUX input.
The biggest update, however, lies under the hood. Though the engine is the same 796cc 3-cylinder motor, it is now BS6 compliant. The engine puts out 48ps at 6,000 rpm and 69Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Alto is now priced between INR 2.94 Lakhs and INR 3.72 Lakhs.
