Yamaha is working on to launch the naked version of the YFZ R15. The motorcycle is to be named as the Yamaha MT15. Yamaha is planning to launch the all new Yamaha MT15 sometime in the next year in the Indian markets. The bike is yet to be launched in the International markets as well. The bike sports sharp design and styling. The cycle and mechanical parts of the MT15 will be borrowed from the facelifted YFZ R15 v3.0 model and the upcoming Yamaha MT15 is built based on it. However the design and sitting position of the upcoming MT15 is different from the R15.

The upcoming new Yamaha MT15 was unveiled earlier at the Thailand Motor Show. The motorcycle that was showcased featured LED headlamps, all digital instrumental cluster and a sporty fuel tank. Besides that the upcoming bike was equipped with upside down fork at the front, disc brakes at the both ends and rear mono shock. The India based Yamaha MT15 is likely to come with conventional telescopic forks. The all new Yamaha MT15 is expected to be priced at Rs 1.2 lakhs. It is likely that the all new Yamaha MT15 come equipped with anti – lock braking system (ABS) as standard safety feature. When launched the all new MT15 will compete on the likes of Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS and TVS Apache.

The all new Yamaha MT15 will extract power from the all new liquid cooled 155 cc engine. This is the same engine powering the YFZ R15 V3.0. The engine churns out a maximum power of 19.3 bhp and produces a peak torque of 15 Nm. However it is not yet know whether the power out figures on the all new Yamaha MT15 will remain the same. The engine on the upcoming Yamaha MT15 will be matted to a six speed transmission with a slipper clutch. Besides that the engine come equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). The VVA helps in improving performance in mid and low range.
