As the dates for the Geneva motor show come close, carmakers are pulling out some of their coolest concept cars to wow the crowds at the world’s most popular auto convention. For those who want a dash of nostalgia among the modern gizmos, Volkswagen has a cool surprise up its sleeve.

When the VW beetle decides to go surfing!

This cute green toad looking concept car is touted to be the rebirth of the iconic sand buggy that roamed the US beaches last century. Though “sand buggy” is an arbitrary term, VW is the one that gave birth to it. Most of the sand buggies are literally modified versions of the iconic VW bug, the Beetle.

Only a couple of the concept sketches have been released now, and they clearly show that the new car will adopt all the original dune buggy’s design cues- bug eyed headlamps, roll bars at the rear and more. And the icing on the cake would be its powertrain- which was confirmed by VW to be purely electric. The car would be built on the new MEB platform. The same platform will also span some of VW’s other retro remakes like the ID Buzz.

Mark your calendars for the 7th of March as its going to be raining car launches at Geneva!
