The new gen Toyota Supra has now made its global debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. This is exactly five years from the time the F1 concept was unveiled in Detroit and now the production form has arrived. The 2020 Toyota Supra has a modern appeal and majority of its design cues are inspired from the FT-1 concept, unlike the its iconic MK4 predecessor that has supple tuning characteristics and held a cult status. The new gen Supra will be offered  in three trims – the Absoluteite, the Nocturnal Black, and Renaissance Red 2.0 colour options, and is limited to just 1,500 units.

The 2020 Toyota Supra is based on the BMW Z4 including the architecture as well. It features  longer front end and shorter deck courtesy similar to the new BMW Z4. However the predator-like headlamps and double roof hump on the new gen Supra are inspired from the FT-1 concept. Besides that the addition of the carbon-fibre front splitter and wide air intake features on the Supra further enhance its appeal.

The dimensions of the 2020 Toyota Supra is compact with short overhangs. The low seating position on the car enabling optimised centre of gravity for good handling characteristics. The prominent features on the new gen Supra includes tear-drop shaped cockpit, slim LED DRLs, dual exhaust pipes with aggressive rear diffuser, and horizontally positioned LED tail lamps, an integrated sporty spoiler. Besides that other features include heavily raked rear glass area, thick A-pillar and wing mirrors finished in black colour, and vents across the side profile for brake cooling and aerodynamic purposes.

On the interior, the 2020 Toyota Supra will get a large touchscreen infotainment system along with an a digital instrument cluster showing information like lap times and G force meter, making the cabin highly driver focused. The other features on the cabin includes the iDrive controller, thereby minimising the use of buttons. Powering the new-gen Toyota Supra is a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo engine that can also be seen in the Z4 M40i. The Toyota Supra develops a power of only 335 hp as opposed to Z4 which makes 382 hp power while the peak torque output is 495 Nm opposed to 500 Nm in Z4. It is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 96 kmph sprint in just 4.1 seconds. The top speed attained by the 2020 Toyota Supra is 250 kmph. The optional equipments on the Supra includes JBL audio and a suite of driver assistance technologies.
