Mahindra is actively testing the new generation Thar. It has been spotted many times while on the test. Although, the latest spy video reveals more details about the boxy Thar. Mahindra has developed the vehicle with a stylish and new appearance. It has got new plastic hooks for the hood that replaces the metal elements. Developed with the latest styling elements, the vehicle doesn’t discard the classic look.
2020 Mahindra Thar will be equipped with all the safety features which will satisfy the upcoming Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP) crash test and safety norms. The vehicle will be offered with dual airbags, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX, ABS, and disc brakes. It will be powered by an all-new BS6 compliant engine. It is outfitted with new front and rear bumpers. Some new elements include doors and handles which will offer enhanced ergonomics.
The latest spy shots surfaced in social media reveals that the vehicle was being tested near Pondicherry. There are three test mules of Thar. Among the three test mules, two are seen in the spy shots and one is spotted carrying a spare wheel on the tailgate, whereas the others were fitted with some BS6 emission testing tools at the back. The new spy shots reveal that the upcoming Mahindra Thar will be offered in different sizes and various constructions of seating and the roof.
In terms of dimension, the new-gen Thar is larger than the existing model. The vehicle was spotted with coil spring front suspension and front fender along with raised hoot. According to previous spy shots, Thar will come with a redesigned cabin. It will be integrated with a new dash along with a suitably moulded front bucket and rear side seats. It is built with large screen info, multi-function steering wheel, padded doors and power windows.
The existing Thar is available with 2.5-litre diesel engines M2DICR making 105 bhp power and 247 Nm torque and NEF TCI CRDe delivering 63 bhp of max power and 195 Nm torque. The new version is expected to be powered by a 2.0 liter m-Hawk diesel engine. The all-new engine will be the most powerful and will be more fuel efficient.
The off-roader will be offered with a four-wheel drive arrangement and low-range transmission. Overall, it is a premium version of Thar. The vehicle is expected to make its first debut at 2020 Auto Expo whereas the launch will be held later. The all-new Mahindra Thar will be priced between Rs 8 lakhs to Rs 14 lakhs (ex-showroom).
