Mahindra’s Scorpio is due for an update. Now, a video on the internet shows a heavily camouflaged version of the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio. The new car codenamed Z101 will run on the updated ladder frame chassis. The same chassis will also feature in the second generation Mahindra Thar.
The new gen Scorpio is getting a complete revamp – inside out. Unfortunately, we do not have interior pictures yet. However, the car still feels like a Scorpio at first glance. Trying to look under all the camouflage, we can see a new grille design. The headlights are also partially covered. But it looks like a newer design. It is also possible that the new Scorpio has a slightly longer wheelbase. The rear door continues to be side hinged. The tail lights are the traditional vertical ones, similar to older models. Overall it feels like a more sharper and updated design of the original Scorpio.
We can also see the new Scorpio next to a Ford Ecosport in the video. The Scorpio appears much taller and bigger than the Ecosport. Depending on the pricing, the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio is expected to go against cars like MG Hector, New Hyundai Venue, and other offerings from Tata, Maruti, etc.
The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio will run on a 2.0-liter BS-VI compliant diesel engine. It will likely be available in multiple states of tune. This motor is expected to produce around 170bhp and 400Nm torque at least in the performance variants. Coming to the transmission, Mahindra is expected to offer a 5/6 speed manual initially. However, an automatic variant might make its way at a later stage.
