BMW has revealed its next-generation 1 Series and we cannot take our eyes from this extreme beauty. It is quite better than the existing 1 Series series which was introduced in early 2004. In about 15 years, the luxurious car has received a great fan following with its new variants. BMW has finally revealed the smallest hatch which is developed in a front-wheel-drive platform with only a five-door setup.
The all-new BMW 1 Series has received a wedge-shaped frame and slender side windows. It is equipped with small raked bonnet following boxy headlight arrangement. It has got a bold looking larger kidney grilles which is based on the X5 and X7 models. In terms of dimension, the car is 4319 mm in length, 1799 mm in width, and 1434 mm in height. The company has enhanced the height of the car, but its length has somewhat decreased.
The company has also announced some additional features on offer including adaptive full-LED set up on top-specs variants. It is available in distinct bumper theme for different variants. The most fascinating design is received by the premium top-specs M135i xDrive variant which will feature a modified grille decoration based on the M340i and Z4. The wheelbase of the hatch is decreased compared to ongoing models, now at 2670 mm.
From the side section, the car gets a new Hofmeister kink and an upper frame line below the door handles. It will be offered in different alloy wheels, varying in size from 16 to 19 inches which are never seen before on BMW series. The company has also revealed the first-in-class optional bigger panoramic glass roof for 1 Series which will transmit sunlight in the car and make the cabin breezy.
The rear of the car is integrated with slim taillights highlighting full-LED set up for the top-specs variant. It comes with a 90-mm diameter of the exhaust point. The cabin is more spacious with enhanced legroom and headroom both on the front and rear passenger seating. The dash is integrated with a standard 8.8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system with gesture controls. The top-spec variant comes with 10.25 inches screen highlighting a fully digital instrument cluster.
All-new BMW 1 Series will be offered in two gasoline engines and three types of diesel units. It will come in a 2.0-litre unit seen in the M135i xDrive which will make 302 horsepower (225 kilowatts) and 450 Newton-meters (332 pound-feet) of torque, combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It will claim 62 mph (100 kph) at just 4.8 seconds. After a few months, the M135i will be available with an M Performance kit which will claim a top speed at 155 mph (250 kph).
While, the lower specs variant, 118i will be offered with a three-cylinder 1.5-litre delivering 138 hp (103 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) combined with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic. The diesel trim, 116d will come with its three-cylinder 1.5-litre unit which will make 114 hp (85 kW) and 270 Nm (200 lb-ft), offered with a six-speed, three-pedal setup and a seven-speed auto. The 118d four-cylinder 2.0-litre displacement will produce 147 hp (110 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft), combined with a six-speed manual transmission.
The 120d xDrive will be powered by a four-cylinder 2.0-litre which will deliver 188 hp (140 kW) of max power and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. This engine is combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The new model will be officially launched in Munich from June 25 to 27. The company will also unveil the 8 Series Gran Coupe in the event. It will be showcased in September at Auto Expo Frankfurt and the customers will start receiving the products by the end of the year.
