The middle weight street fighter Yamaha MT-09 gets a refresh for 2019. It is launched in India at a price of INR 10.55 lakh. This is an increase of INR 16,000 over the previous model. Also, bookings are open in Yamaha dealerships across the country. Deliveries will begin very soon.
2019 Yamaha MT-09 gets a few minor graphics changes and also a new paint scheme. The motorcycle is available in a new shade called Night Fluo. It is mainly a white color with black trims and red accents on the alloy wheels. The other two colors, Yamaha Blu and Tech Black remain unchanged.
Design-wise, the new MT-09 is very similar to the outgoing model. The only other change is the MT-09 logo on the tank in a red shade. It also gets the twin-pod LED headlights like its predecessor. The rear gets a swingarm mounted license plate holder – trying to keep the tail as clean as possible. Yamaha says the design makes the new motorcycle look bold and futuristic.
Yamaha MT-09 engine, performance and features
The new MT-09 runs on the same 847cc in-line three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It churns out 113 bhp at 10,000 rpm and also 87.5 Nm of peak torque at 8500 rpm. It is also paired with a 6-speed gearbox which is assisted by a Quick Shift System (QSS) for faster up shifts. On the safety side, Yamaha has included ABS and traction control system along with an assist and slipper clutch. It also gets adjustable 41mm USD forks up front and adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is handled by dual 298mm discs in the front and a 245 mm single disc at the rear.
The MT-09 will go up against the likes of the Kawasaki Z900, Triumph Street Triple, Suzuki GSX-S750, and the Ducati Monster 821 as its rivals. Yamaha is also launching a smaller version of the MT line up- the MT-15 in March this year.
