Maruti Suzuki India Ltd today launched the all-new 2019 WagonR. It is priced at 4.19 Lakhs for the base 1.0L LXI variant. The top of the line, 1.2L Zxi with auto gear shift will set you back by 5.69 Lakhs. The Big New WagonR, as Maruti calls it, has grown into mature and appealing eye candy. It is, however, different from the current generation model on sale in Japan. Since its very first launch in 1998, Maruti has sold 22 lakh WagonR’s in India.
The biggest change, or surprise, as it can be aptly put, is the WagonR is now offered with a 1.2L K12M engine. Yes, It is the same engine that is at the heart of the Swift, Ignis and the Baleno. It’s got 81 Bhp of power and 113Nm of torque on tap and will be available with a 5-speed AMT as well as the manual transmission. Maruti claims a fuel efficieny of 21 Kmpl. The other engine on offer is the 1.0L K10B engine which is good for 68PS of power and 90Nm of torque.
With this update, the WagonR enters the 3rd generation and is based on the HEARTECT platform. The all new WagonR looks entirely different from the outgoing model. It gets new headlamps, splashes of chrome here and there. The front grill is now wider and the C-pillar is blacked out for that floating roof effect. The rear gets all new vertically stacked tail lamp cluster.
The WagonR measures 3,655 mm in length, 1,620 mm in width and 1,675 mm in height, making the new gen WagonR 19 mm longer, 145 mm wider and 5 mm taller than the outgoing WagonR. The Wheelbase also has grown by 35mm. This increased dimensions translate into a roomier cabin and increased boot space. The boot space now stands at a whopping 341 litres.
Speaking of the interior, it is done in dual tone beige and brown upholstery. We get a redesigned instrument cluster, but there is no tachometer though. Other features include four power windows, manual air-conditioning, steering-mounted audio and call controls, and a rear wiper/defogger. The WagonR gets an all-new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It has 12v charging sockets as well as electric ORVMs.
The base variant the Lxi(MT) tips the scales at 805 kgs and the top of the line Zxi with AGS weights 40kgs more at 845 kg.
