Triumph India has launched the “New performance icon” today. The latest generation Speed Twin has been revealed at a price of Rs 9.46 Lakhs. It gets a bigger engine unit borrowed from the powerful Thruxton R.
The name “Speed Twin” is derived from 1938 Triumph motorcycle which was the first parallel twin engine they produced. In the era of single cylinder engine motorcycles, Triumph bought the original Speed Twin, with the parallel twin motor. Triumph said that the same philosophy is followed for the parallel twin they produce today.
So when Triumph revives the Speed Twin name it has to live up to the heritage. The new bike is said to have great riding capabilities and a great balance of performance and technology. It’s not just a Thruxton R in Bonneville’s body, it has much more under its sleeve. Coming to the design the modern classic features a timeless design, a signature 14.5-litre sculpted fuel tank, twin black megaphone upswept sports silencers, a new seat, minimal front mudguard, and bar end mirrors which give it a sport but classic look. It also gets brushed aluminum front and rear mudguards, throttles body covers, side panel finishers, and heel guards. Even the swingarm is anodized aluminum along with 7-spoke aluminum wheels.
Coming to the heart of Speed Twin sits a 1200cc Bonneville twin, 8 valve engine which gets Thruxton performance tune to make 97PS at 6,750rpm and 112Nm of the peak torque at 4,950rpm. The torque output is whole 40% more than Triumph’s latest Street Twin model. The engine has been tweaked for the Speed Twin, it gets low inertia high-performance magnesium cam cover, a revised clutch assembly, and optimized engine covers. Braking duties are carried by a twin discs Brembo 4-piston axial calipers set up at the front brakes and a 2-piston caliper with the single disc at the rear.
At the safety front it gets Anti-locking Braking System (ABS), and traction control which can be controlled by the left-hand switch. The wheels are from Pirelli, Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3 tires. The suspension is tuned to deliver a precise modern roadster feel with cartridge front forks and twin rear suspension units. Triumph offers the Speed Twin has over 80 custom accessories, to make your Speed Twin unique.
The Speed Twin starts at a price of Rs 9.46 Lakh and offers great performance along with the unique styling. Triumph offers three colors – Korosi red and storm grey, jet black and Silver ice and storm grey. It competes with BMW R nineT, Kawasaki Z900 RS and the Yamaha MT-09.
