The eighth generation Toyota Camry hybrid has been spotted testing in Bengaluru, India. The sedan is expected to hit the Indian roads in 2019 and is likely to be priced Rs 1 lakh more than the current Camry, which is sold at an ex showroom [Delhi] price of Rs 37.22 lakh. The 2019 Toyota Camry hybrid will be offered in four driving modes – Normal, Eco, EV and Sport. The next generation Toyota Camry hybrid sports all new design along with a new chassis, modified hybrid powertrain as well as more features.
The 2019 Toyota Camry hybrid is based on the Toyota’s new ‘Keen Look’ design language. The sedan will come with a large air dam at the front, prominent creases from front to rear doors and a V shaped front grille. The V shaped grille connects the headlamps. The 2019 Toyota Camry hybrid is based on the wheel drive Toyota New Global Architecture [TNGA] platform and it is called GA – K. The recently launched Lexus ES 300h is also built on the same TNGA platform. This has not only incresed the dimension of the next generation Camry but also increased the wheelbase of the sedan by 50 mm, which now measuring 2825 mm while the weight of the sedan remains same.
The interior of the 2019 Toyota Camry hybrid is now made better with modifications which include the new 8.0 inch touchscreen infotainment system mounted on the top of central console, a new 10 inch head up display and a 7.0 inch multi information display in the instrument cluster. The drab dashboard has been replaced with a new sweeping design tilted slightly towards the driver. Besides that the cabin sports a nine speaker JBL audio system, wireless smartphone charging, dual zone automatic climate control and cooled and power reclining rear seats.
Powering the 2019 Toyota Camry hybrid is a four cylinder 2.5 litre petrol engine which makes 176 hp power and 221 Nm torque. This engine works together with a 118 hp electric motor which delivers a total power of 208 hp. A six stem CVT automatic gearbox gets matted to the petrol hybrid system. In order to boost fuel economy, the 2019 Toyota Camry hybrid sports a new auto glide control coasting feature. Toyota has efficiently considered the safety features as well by providing the next gen camry with 10 air bags, a lane departure alert, dynamic radar cruise control, a pre – collision system with pedestrian detection and steering assistance as standard.
