The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) has scored the Mercedes G Class 5 stars when it comes to safety. The new G Class gets a sturdy frame and checks all the necessary safety features and the results speak for itself. It is available in the AMG G63 trim in India and starts at INR 2.2 crore (ex-showroom).
Euro NCAP measures the safety of a car in four areas. The G Class scored 90 percent, 83 percent, and 78 percent in adult and child occupant protection and also pedestrian protection respectively. The car performed exceptionally well in frontal and side impact tests.
The Mercedes G Class also comes with a feature called Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). This is one of the most important features when it comes to pedestrian safety. Other features like ABS, seat belt reminders are standard. It also gets driver, passenger, side and knee airbags to ensure the safety of the occupants in case of a crash. The rear seats also gets ISOFIX mount to safely attach a child seat.
The lane keep assist scored a marginal grade with a 72 percent score. This was because the car kept drifting out of its lane and this can be dangerous in some situations. The A pillars is where the car suffers when it comes to vulnerable road users.
The G Class runs on a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine. It produces 577 bhp power and 850 Nm torque. This propels the car from 0 to 100kmph in 4.4 seconds. It also has a top speed of 220kmph.
