Kawasaki has showcased its new 2019 range of the supersport Kawasaki ZX-10R range. It features significant technical updates over the outgoing model. The new models will reach international markets soon and will come to India too.
Kawasaki ZX-10R engine:
The major upgrades will be to the powertrain. The heart of the motorcycle will be the same 998cc in-line four-cylinder engine. But the valvetrain will see big changes. Kawasaki is now using a finger follower valve actuation technology instead of the standard tappet system. This accounts for an overall mass reduction of 20% from the valvetrain. This enables the engine to rev faster.
Further, the exclusive Kawasaki ZX-10RR will feature titanium connecting rods. This further reduces the weight by 400gms allowing the engine to rev higher by 600RPM. These upgrades will benefit the WSBK motorcycles to perform better. The 2019 standard Kawasaki ZX-10R now produces 200BHP, almost 3BHP over the outgoing model. The more powerful ZX-110RR now produces almost 204BHP.
The standard Kawasaki ZX-10R now sports Brembo brakes and Showa balance free forks. ZX-10RR, on the other hand, gets a mechanical suspension, but with the lighter wheels and upgraded engine. The special edition ZX-10R SE features electronic suspension and lightweight Marchesini wheels. ZX-10R SE also gets Kawasaki’s advanced self healing paint technology. All the three models will have a bi-directional quick shifter as standard. Other features like riding modes, traction control, and ABS will remain the same as the existing model, albeit with some tweaks.
Visually, the 2019 ZX-10R line up will remain similar to the current model. The base ZX-10R will get Kawasaki’s KRT (black and green) color scheme with red accents. The ZX-10RR will get a green color scheme with black lettering. ZX-10R SE model will sport a black scheme paint with self healing technology and green accents including on the seats.
Currently, the ZX-10R motorcycles cost INR 12.8 to 16.10 lakh. The 2019 updated model will probably see a small price hike thanks to a host of newly added features. Official pricing has not been revealed yet by Kawasaki.
