Honda has recently amazed the mass with its all new Honda Amaze at Auto Expo 2018 in Noida, India. Now the Japanese manufacturer seems to be unstoppable with its current pace. Honda has made global debut of its next gen Honda Brio at Indonesia Motor Show 2018 and the hatch has raised many eyebrows at first look. Honda has showcased the Brio as “Small RS Concept”. The current Honda Brio has failed to attract the Indian buyer and has very small number of Brio’s running in Indian roads. Although, the car is pretty familiar in south Asian countries like Indonesia and Thailand. The Honda Brio is now due for an update and the “Small RS concept” has now throttled the hope for new next-gen Honda Brio coming sooner.
At First Look!
The Concept car aka Honda Brio is not just an update but a complete design overhaul. You can’t find any clues of the current gen Brio. The Car has new front face with thick signature chrome grill with RS badging over it. Looking at it you will recall the new Amaze Instantly. While the bumper is a sporty one (as the name suggests “Small RS Concept”) with low profile dual tone air damp along with LED DRL with glossy black, mess surround. While at the sides ORVM are glossy black along with the door handle bars.

The Rear too has been dramatically changed. No more the full glass lid and is replaced with contemporary metal back lid with RS badging on it. Though looking at the back you may recall the Tata Tiago back. Although the rear sporty roof mounted spoiler and the dual tone rear bumper gives it a very muscular sporty hatch look. Additionally the “Small RS Concept” can be seen with massive all black alloys to match its sporty profile.
Engine and Powering
The 2019 Honda Brio is expected to be powered with the same 1.2-litre 4 cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine which produces 88 PS and 109 Nm of torque mated with a 5 speed transmission. While a CVT Automatic transmission is expected to be offered basis the current market trend. However, Honda may also offer a turbo powered or a higher spec engine for a sporty variant which may come later after the hatch is launched in India.
What we think
The current version of Brio has not met the expectation of Honda and has received many criticism for its design and huge priced tag with the limited offering compared to its rivals. The Next Gen Honda Brio is expected to fill that gap and mitigate the lapses from previous generation Brio. Undoubtedly the 2019 Honda Brio is a bumper and has perfect blend of a Hatch Back for Indian Market. The New Brio is expected to be launched in India somewhere in mid of this year and the pricing would be biggest factor of its success in Indian Market. If launched the Brio will go against the newly launched Swift, Ford Figo, Tata Tiago, Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Volkswagen Polo and Toyota Etios.
