2019 BMW Z4 unveiled - India launch expected soon

BMW India website now lists the 2019 BMW Z4. Although there is no news of bookings being open, this shows that the company is ready to launch the car soon.

The new generation BMW Z4 is built from the ground up on the new CLAR platform. The same can also be seen on the new 5-series, 7-series, and a few M-series cars. BMW first showcased this car in August last year.

2019 BMW Z4 engine and performance

The new 2019 BMW Z4 is available in two engine options. The M40i runs on a 3-liter inline 6 engine. This produces 340hp and also 500Nm torque. However, the sDrive20i runs on a more modest 2-liter engine pumping out 197hp and 320Nm torque. BMW also claims a 0-100kmph sprint in just 4.5 seconds for the 40i. The 20i is just 1.2 seconds slower in comparison.

Design and features

The new BMW Z4 looks strikingly similar to its older predecessor. BMW proudly owns the Z design heritage with this new model. The Z4 is available as a roadster. This means it will also get a soft top roof which opens and closes in 10 seconds. BMW proudly owns the Z design heritage with this new model. Upfront the long bonnet features the iconic BMW kidney-shaped grille with a mesh design. The headlight design now is more sharp and angular. It now also features a large air vent on the front fenders.

The interior also has the typical BMW feel. It is futuristic yet highly functional. The interior sports two 10.25 inch – an infotainment display and an instrument cluster. It also comes with a wide array of connectivity and ease of use with iDrive controls. The cabin also features a 12-speaker Harman Kardon music system.

Safety and driveability

BMW also focuses on the safety of the driver and passengers. Apart from the usual safety features, the new Z4 comes with advanced driving assistance. This includes city braking function, speed limit assistance, lane departure warning, and rear collision warning.

The car also gets advanced parking assistance and adaptive cruise control. A heads up display also helps the driver. The car also gets M sport differential which optimizes traction and driving stability when changing lanes or in high speed bends. It also gets M sport brakes, Adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering, and steptronic sport transmission.
