BMW has finally unwrapped the most awaited X4 which is a muscular and enhanced version of X3. The new sports coupe has received amazing detailings and underpinnings for high-performance. The beauty will be locally assembled at the company’s Chennai factory. It will be offered in diesel as well as petrol variants. The all-new BMW X4 SUV-Coupe is available at Rs 60.60 lakh ex-showroom (India).
The X4 is developed on the latest BMW’s CLAR platform which was seen in the 7 Series. It weighs almost 50 kg less when compared to the previous models. Although, the light-weight feature didn’t affect the dimension of the car. It is now wider and longer than other models in the range. In terms of dimension, the X4 is 81 mm longer and 37 mm wider compared to X3. The wheelbase and boot capacity is 2864 mm and 525 litres, respectively.
X4 is another charming car in the BMW family which gets fully adaptive LED headlights and LED fog lamps highlighting the signature kidney grille at the front. It also gets M Aerodynamics Package and side skirts. The front fascia is more like the previous version, but with some great tweaks. The rear section of the sporty car is integrated with wraparound taillights and twin exhaust pipes. It sits on 19-inch alloy wheels highlighting wheel arch trim.
The SUV-Coupe comes in exciting shades which include Alpine White, Flamenco Red Brilliant Effect, Phytonic Blue and Carbon Black. Moving inside the cabin, the car is decorated with ambient lighting on glass roof and welcome carpet lights. It is integrated with ‘Vernasca’ leather upholstery, multifunction M leather steering wheel and illuminated M door sill.
The dash is equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen which supports BMW Apps, Wireless Apple CarPlay, 16-speaker, 600 watt Harman Kardon sound system. Some other features include full-colour BMW Head-Up Display, BMW Display Key, Gesture Control, and Wireless Charging. It also features Parking Assistant, Rear-View Camera and Park Distance Control (PDC). Some safety features are six airbags, stability control, Attentiveness Assist, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), and Isofix child seat mounts.
The X4 runs on 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel in the xDrive30d generating 265PS of maximum power and 620Nm of peak torque. The xDrive20d is powered by 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel producing 190PS and 400Nm. The petrol unit is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder BSVI-compliant petrol engine in the xDrive30i delivers 252PS of power and 350Nm of torque.
The 3.0-litre diesel unit claims 100kmph in just 6.0 seconds whereas, the 2.0-litre petrol is just 0.3 seconds slower and the 2.0-litre diesel claims 8.0 seconds. The engine is combined with an 8-speed Steptronic Automatic Transmission and all-wheel drive an option. It also comes in four drive modes: Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport and Sport+. The car competes against the likes of Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 and GLE 43.
