There is a niche segment of performance sedan which is based on their regular variant but with an insane amount of power. Mercedes has their AMG variants based on C, E and S class, while Audi has S4, S6 and S8 and BMW come with their M variant sedans. Favourite among enthusiasts for their driving dynamics BMW has just launched the latest M5 sedan in India.
Known as M5 Competition the car is a performance variant based on the regular 5 series. But do not mistake it for a normal 5 series its got various enhancements under the engine bay as well as exterior to know that this is something different.
First, of let’s talk about what propels this sedan. It is powered by a 4.4 litre 8-cylinder, twin-turbocharged petrol motor which makes staggering 625hp and 750Nm of torque channelling all four wheels via BMW’s M xDrive. 0 to 100km/h takes only 3.3 seconds! The xDrive can also allow you to switch to only rear-wheel-drive if you want to have more fun. The engine is mated to an 8-speed M-Tronic transmission and you also get paddle shifters. You can also opt for optional Ceramic brakes for better braking without generating too much heat. And is the last thing M Sport exhaust system which can deliver intense engine sound in Sport and Sport+ mode and a lower note in comfort mode.
The exterior gets gloss black highlight on the kidney grille, ORVMs, side air vent, rear diffuser and the spoiler. It also gets an M carbon roof which is made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof and the bonnet is made of Aluminium to reduce weight and improve strength.
The interior of the car gets M specific BMW’s heads-up display, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, 10.25-inch infotainment system, parking assist plus with top view, remote 3d view and Active PDC emergency braking function. The interior also gets the M treatment with different seats, pedals and a red start-stop button.
Coming to customizations you get 19 different exterior colour options, 12 seat leather material and colour option, 6 interior trim options and 3 different 20-inch alloy options. So you can customise the car exactly for your needs and taste. BMW M5 is priced at Rs 1.55 Crore (ex-showroom, pan-India) and comes as CBU. It competes with Mercedes E63 AMG S.
