Porsche has confirmed the launch of the 2018 Porsche Cayenne in India. It will make its way to showrooms on October 17th. Porsche India Director, Pavan Shetty has revealed the good news. The third generation Cayenne gets numerous changes and updates over its preceding model.
The new Porsche Cayenne gets an updated engine and also a new hybrid power train. It also gets many feature updates. The new SUV is built on the MLB-Evo platform which is also used in the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and the Lamborghini Urus. Visually, the new Cayenne is still the same. It has similar design styling to the current model.
Engine and Performance
The flagship Cayenne gets a pair of newly developed engines from the new Panamera. The base Cayenne runs on a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 engine. It produces a generous peak power of 340hp and 450Nm torque. This is 40hp and 50Nm more than the older Cayenne’s 3.5l naturally aspirated V6 used to produce. 0-100kmph comes in at 6.3sec (5.9sec with the optional Sport Chrono package) and has a top speed of 244kmph.
Porsche has also introduced two more models which offer more performance – Cayenne S and Cayenne turbo. The Cayenne S runs on a 2.9l turbo V6 pumping out 440hp power and 550Nm torque. This variant sprints from 0-100kmph in just 5.2sec (4.9sec with the optional Sport Chrono package). It also has a higher top speed of 265kmph.
The Cayenne turbo is the most powerful of the trio. It churns out a massive 550hp power and 770Nm torque from its 4.0-litre V8 mill. It reaches 100kmph from standstill in just 4.1sec (3.9sec with the optional Sport Chrono package). The top speed comes in at 286kmph.
There is another variant, the Cayenne E-hybrid. This uses the standard Cayenne’s 3.0l engine paired with an electric motor. This produces 462bhp and 700Nm of peak torque. All variants use a newly-designed eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission as standard.
Features of 2018 Porsche Cayenne
The new 2018 Porsche Cayenne also gets a host of features at its disposal. Porsche offers four driving modes: Mud, Gravel, Sand, and Rock. Further, drive mode, chassis setting, and differential locks can be adjusted to suit the terrain.
Also on offer is a 12.3-inch touchscreen system, seven-inch full HD instrument displays, Lane Changing & Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Traffic Jam Assist, Park Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control among others as standard across all models.
It also gets the latest generation of the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system. The new Cayenne also gets LEDs as standard, the second grade will offer the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), which will have modes like cornering assist, and the third grade (PDLS Plus) will have matrix beam lighting that will use 84 individually controlled LEDs to adjust the high beam to prevent dazzling oncoming traffic or cause a glare on road signs.
