Mahindra Alturas G4 is the second generation of SsangYong Rexton under Mahindra’s badging. The car is based on an entirely new chassis and runs on SsangYong’s 2.2-liter rail diesel engine. This SUV is a direct competitor to the likes of Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.
Mahindra Alturas G4 – Design:
The new Mahindra Alturas G4 is all about bulk and road presence. The sharp lines all over from the headlights to the roofline provide definition to the SUV. The front of the SUV features a simple yet bold grille. It also has HID headlights and LED DRLs. The lower bumper, however, looks like it’s built to handle slightly rough terrain with ease.
The overall stance of the SUV is a little boxy and also looks longer than usual. And the numbers confirm this. The Alturas G4 has the longest wheelbase of the segment. It is also the tallest and the widest. The side profile of the car features a pretty small window for the last row.
The major problem with the design is the wheels. Those 18-inch alloys look disproportionate with otherwise a really big SUV.
The interiors of the Alturas G4 feels premium and well designed. Mahindra has a few neat and nifty features to make the overall experience of the car feel good. Like the driver’s seat. Opening the driver side front door makes the drive’s seat slide bike, to allow easier entry to the car. Once the door is closed, the seat moves to its initial location automatically.
And then there is the premium cabin itself. It is filled with finishes like brushed aluminium, real leather, and faux wood. The quality of the materials used is also top-notch. The seats get a quilted leather finish.
The Alturas G4 is well equipped on the feature front too. It features an 8-inch touchscreen in the center console. This supports both Apple Carplay and Android auto and also comes with a reverse parking camera. In addition to this, there is also a 7-inch multi-information display in the instrument cluster which can also display tyre pressures.
The Mahindra Alturas G4 runs on a 2.2-liter diesel engine. This produces 178 hp at 4,000 rpm and 420Nm torque. The engine is also BS-VI compliant. This engine is mated to a 7-speed torque converter automatic gearbox which is sourced from Mercedes-Benz. It also gets a technology called shift-on-fly four-wheel-drive system.
The Mahindra Alturas G4 is priced at INR 26.95 lakh for the base trim and 29.95 lakh for the top of the line variant in India.
